ANCESTRAL MEDICINES
THE ANCESTRAL MEDICINES OFFERED AT SOL DEL SUR
AYAHUASCA
YAGÉ
Ayahuasca (Yagé) is a sacred healing plant originally discovered in the Peruvian amazon Jungle. Many visitors to Ayahuasca retreats today seek the powerful healing it is known to bring. It has cured chronic depression, drug addiction, PTSD and alcoholism. As well as autoimmune disorders and physical illnesses such as Parkinson’s disease, psoriasis and even cancer. The medicine is taken in the form of a brew; the Ayahuasca vine, Chacruna leaves and water boiled and prayed on for many hours.
SAN PEDRO
WACHUMA OR HUACHUMA
San Pedro (Wachuma or Huachuma) cactus contains the well-known compound, Mescaline. It's psychedelic journeys are similar to Peyote however, San Pedro’s effects are much more gentle and grounding. Wachuma or Huachuma is a Quechuan name that designates the Trichocereus Bridgesii cacti. It has been an object of veneration for the people of the Andes throughout centuries due to it’s capacity to bring one to the primordial state of presence. As the Ayahuasca vine is considered the mother, Wachuma/Huachuma is considered as the grand father, and their natures are both distinct and complementary.
Psilocybin
PSILOCYBE
Psilocybin (Psilocybe) mushrooms are incredibly powerful entheogens sought after for their ability to induce altered states of consciousness as well as their profound ability to heal. They are very effective at treating diseases like depression, social anxiety, PTSD and addiction. They also heal traces of trauma stemming from physical, mental and sexual abuse. They are also known as niños santos (Holy children) in Mexico.
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES
THESE CAN BE PURCHASED IN-PERSON AT THE CENTER
TEMAZCAL
SWEAT LODGE
The Temazcal ritual (Sweat lodge) is based on the four aspects of the medicinal wheel; air, water, earth, and fire, as well as the composition of our bodies; physical, emotional and spiritual. It has the shape of an igloo, a shell-like structure made from branches and covered by blankets before an altar outdoors. It represents a tortoise, the archetype of Mother Earth. When we enter the tortoise’s shell we enter the womb of the Cosmic Mother and when we exit the shell we are reborn. The ceremony is lead by our Temazcalero and it promotes physical and mental health as well as spiritual healing by encouraging reflection and introspection.
